Entrepreneurs

Politicians hoped that persons would be impressed by scholars’ confident demeanors. They also hoped that they would be impressed by their advanced academic degrees, research studies, appointments to prestigious universities, and affiliations with scientific institutes.

Like politicians, entrepreneurs realized that scholarly research could be a strategy with which to advance schemes. They viewed business leaders as the targets for some of their schemes. They assured them that they had located scholarly information that would stimulate them personally and benefit them professionally (Ruokonen, 2003).

Although the entrepreneurs were eager to share information with business leaders, they realized that professors were providing this information as well. The entrepreneurs claimed that they had information that was easier to understand and implement than that from professors. Additionally, they provided their information outside of university classrooms; they offered it within seminars, films, software, and books (e.g., Covey, 1989; S. Johnson, 1998; Kaplan Thaler & Koval, 2006; Mortensen, 2008; Rao, 2006).
